CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR KIDS IN NJ AND APPALACHIA, KY

We need your help to make Christmas merry for some really needy kids at Henderson Settlement, a United Methodist Mission in Frakes Kentucky. It is difficult to comprehend that families living in that area live on less than $15,000 annually.
St. Andrew’s has made a commitment to Henderson Settlement to buy presents for 9 and 10 year old boys and girls who will attend a Christmas party on December 10. There are 40 boys and 40 girls in this age group and each child gets two gifts each, so you can see the need is great…but with your help we can be God’s hands and put smiles on some needy children’s faces.
We ask that you spend about $25 on each gift; please bring gifts to the church by Sunday, November 20 so we can get them mailed in a timely fashion. At the back of the sanctuary, look for a sign up sheet. Follow directions to fill out the sheet. Also, take an envelope for boys or girls. In it you will find a list of suggested items to buy. There is also a colored tag with either boy or girl written on it and a white space for you to write the name of the gift you purchased.
Wrap your gift and put the colored tag on it. Return the envelope/s with a $7 donation for each gift purchased. The $7 is to help defray the cost of mailing the gifts. Return the gift and postage envelope by Sunday, November 20. If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile project but are not able to shop for gifts, send a check to the church payable to the UMW and earmark it for Henderson Settlement. Someone will shop for you.
Suggestions for gifts include: For Boys: books, sports equipment, board games, hand held electronic games, science kit, lego sets, laser tag systems, walkie talkies, kinects, magnetics, CD’s, movies, action figures, watches. For Girls: jewelry, CD’s, movies, arts and craft supplies, books, boardgames, makeup kit, watches, wallets, age appropriate dolls, lego sets.
For more gift suggestions, Google “gift suggestions for 9 and 10 year old boys and girls.” A letter from the Director of Community Outreach and some brochures are in the back of the church for you to read more about Henderson Settlement. Please leave them for others to read.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to help with this United Methodist Christmas project.

St. Andrew’s UMC
“Hoe Down / Falltastic”

ALL CHURCH MEET & GREET
WITH A MISSION

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23rd
4:30 – 7:00pm in WESLEY HALL

October 23rd is the annual Sunday School sponsored All-Church “Falltastic” from 4:30-7:00 in Wesley hall. Once again it will be a covered-dish dinner with lots of fun, and Fall crafts for the children. It is a chance for the whole congregation to gather and have some fun together. We will box and label extra food for The Center in Asbury Park, which provides home cooked, simple meals for AIDS patients as well as support and services for people suffering from this awful disease. Last year St. Andrew’s packed and delivered over 150 dinners. We will need your help to at least match last years goal. Please mark October 23rd on your calendar and plan to join the Sunday School kids and staff in this effort. All that is required is that your dish be a meat, fish or poultry, vegetable, or starch, preferably not a casserole, and there be plenty of it. Together we will put the meals together and label them. It should be a fun time for everyone, children, youth and adults – and will fill a lot of freezer space at The Center. Thanks in advance for your support. Any questions call Michele Neiberlien.

The Center is also in dire need of items for hygiene kits: tooth brushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, soap, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant. If you can provide any of these things they can be left in the Wesley Hall kitchen or brought with you to the Falltastic. We will deliver them along with our meals. Thanks for helping The Center and so many others.
